After being on hiatus here's a new post at last. Sorry, no sewing at the moment but a whole lot of knitting.
Nachdem ich Schals in allen Varianten gestrickt habe, habe ich mich an Handschuhe gewagt. So Richtige, mit Fingern. ;)
After several scarves and shawls I tried gloves, real ones with fingers.
Knitted after
"Knotty". Unfortunately you can't see the cables clearly in this wool. But they keep my fingers warm and I'm satified with the result of my first glove-task.
But you can't keep the cold away with only gloves so then I needed something for my head. I usually don't like hats but
"Windhelm"
convinced me otherwise.
The brim is uneven because of short rows and the hat has two pleats at its back so it fits perfectly. ( Around my neck you can see my favorite shawl, 50 gr of super soft mohair yarn, totally warm and fluffy!)
I'm knitting the third Windhelm right now because it seems that the winter won't go away at the moment. And the real tough ones will go on a holiday to Scotland in March. Only four days but one day I will spend at the Highland and I guess I will need some wind protection!

Not all
those who wander are lost.
JRR Tolkien
30 min lunch break, used every day to get a breath of fresh air. And we always go out (nearly) no matter how wet or cold it is outside! Though it is the same way every day you will always have a new impression!
I promise to update my blog soon. I've been busy knitting things but neglected the blog a bit.

Same procedure as every year..

It's summertime ( according to the calendar) so it means that it is also time for the Spectaculum in Cologne.
As usual I've sewn another piece for my garb. Nothing spectecular, I just finished my underdress which didn't come to terms last year. I had to redo the sleeves and fix the seams. It's a bit of a fake because the front and back are from some linen-mixed fabric and the sleeves from the very last bits of my blue linen.
This year I was able to persuade my college to accompany me. It needed only one sentence for that. "You can have Schupfnudeln" Which was enough reason for a Swabian to travel to Cologne.
The weather forecast was fine, sunshine, a few clouds, 25°C and rain showers will be the exception. We will talk about the exception later...
But the start was pretty good. A blue sky, only a few clouds and warm, my woolen cloak stayed at home.
Though there was a little scepticism while looking to the sky.
But then it was just a light shower and afterwards the sun came out again while Saltatio Mortis had their first gig.

And then she got her reward for coming with me.
Yes, you can eat this! Though it doesn't look that appealing. ;)
The Fair was a little bit altered so the stages where at different places than last year but after a while we got used to it. And it was very well visited!
After the "Veschperpause" we watched a medieval fight show.
With some serious stunts.
A juggler who could balance some interesting things.
And visited the many boothes where you can spend all your money.
We took the opportunity to make some nice pictures of our garb. .
And slag about the garbs (or non-garbs) of other visitors.
I really love the stiltwalkers who float around the place.

And still the sun was shining... until...
rain showers were not the exception. And it was no light rain but a heavy shower with wind so in spite of sitting under a tent-roof we went wet all over. It's a really interesting feeling when there is water running down your back and your breast.
And it was not only one shower but three of them which caused us to flee under different roofs. Okay, it's a nice way to meet new people ( getting spontaneously surrounded by four young men was quite an interesting experience!) but wearing three layers of soaked linen is REALLY awkward!
Absolutely awkward!
Trying to dry these things a little bit was totally in vain because of the lack of sunshine or any other source of heat. We've tried a barbecue grill but this didn't work but only gave us an authentic smell.
But we didn't surrender and stayed bravely ignoring the wet feet, the cold breast and the mud because we wanted to see the night-concert!
They really did their best to cheer up the people though in this picture it looks like it didn't work.
To warm yourself up while dancing really doesn't work that well. At least we didn't slip in the mud.
At the end there was another reward.
A second helping of "Schupfnudeln".
After going home I took a very hot shower to get warm again and wash off the dirt from my feet ( this year with an interesting cross pattern because I kept my shoes on). My garb is already clean again.
My conclusion for this year: Rain REALLY sucks! Next year I will sew myself a cuculle from loden or take my pink rain cape with me! Anything to keep my dry! The Spectaculum is always worth visiting no matter how odd the weather is. And you can eat "Schupfnudeln" even if you are a Non-Swabian!

Heidi!
Darf ich vorstellen... HEIDI!

I wasn't totally unsuccessful by reviving my sewing machine. Maybe I should only sew bags, they usually come out pretty nice without any terrible accidents.
May I introduce to you HEIDI!

I have used a free pattern of Farbenmix, the small version without an extra bottom but with a zipper. A well written pattern which is a lot easier than it looks.
The farbics came all from my stash, the strap slider and the d-ring are from an old backpack and the border was a bargain. :D

Even the smaller version has enough space for the usual stuff including my lunchbox and might be big enough for a small bottle of water.

I will definitely sew it again but add a longer zipper. 30 cm are a little bit short!

After I recovered my sewing machine lately ( I will show you the result next time) I wanted to use my days off to reduce my stash. Daringly I copied a shirt pattern from the Ottobre 2007 and cutted THREE shirts at once! Maybe summer will come this year. I also found an UFO in my sewing case, another shirt which only misses the hems. Great, four shirts in one sweep! But first I cut a little hole in one of my front panels while making a binding for the neck. Right, you should put the pieces wide away when you are cutting another one... I know. Of course the hole was too wide away from the side seam so I couldn't hide it. I had to cut a new panel, fortunately I had enough fabric left.
After that I noticed that I had no yarn for one of the shirts. There was nothing fitting for the seams.
Next try, the UFO. Ironed the hems neatly, put in some stretch twin-needle and.. no.. that looked really awful. Tried all options, foot pressure, thread tension, yarn, another foot... the result was utterly devastating. ( and I remembered why this shirt became an UFO) Changed to an imitated coverstitch which ended in a very long ripping session. During which I pricked my finger with the ripper. Just a very little prick which bleeded like hell.
I put that shirt aside after that, there were two options left. So I put up the serger and started sewing...
Thread break.
Rethreaded again, closed the first shoulder seam, attached the bindig to the neckline, closed the second shoulder seam, first side seam. I rejoiced, should the luck be on my side? Just one seam left and... no... thread break. That was a sign, I stopped sewing because this was definitely not my day to do so. Instead I picked up my knitting needles and crouched in front of the television. Just to play it safe. ;)

Time to say goodbye

Don't worry I won't stop blogging. But I had to say goodbye to something else.
After

it was over for us.
The times of sailing together are over.

After elven years my car and me will go separate ways. Fortunately the Black Pearl will not end at the breakers' yard, but I was really sorry today. I even cried a few tears on our last ride while the radio played "he's a pirate". It was such a nice car!

But... I already have a new one! Pretty green! I hope our love will last just als long as the last one.
