No lazy daisy!

Read this in english

Kerstin

Yes, it was a bit quite here lately due to the busy month I had. Since the end of the autumn vacation I spent a whole lot of time in traffic jams. It was totally a pain in the neck to be late for work and have to stay longer in the afternoon. Besides my "Black Pearl" had to go on the dry dock for a day so I had to go by train. This is no option because I needed two hours for just one way. No, thanks!
But I haven't been totally lazy these days although my sewing machine needs a bit dusting.
I've started Arwen with a yarn called "Enya".
Arwen1
First I was a little concerned about the doublesided cable pattern but it turned out to be quite easy if you don't take a wrong turn.
I won't knit the hood and search for a nice alternative.
To change from thick to small needles once in a while I knitted Kunigunde which has also reduced my stash ( just to buy new wool).
Kunigunde
A nice project while watching TV!
And then I had holidays at last! Just one week but I don't care cause it means one week of no traffic jams!
Apart from some gardenwork my sewing machine was at work for a tiny project.
Booties
Very tiny! These are Bitty Booties for the little babygirl of a friend.
I better not show you some of MY shoes next to these! ;)

And now, I have to admit it. Inside of me there still lives an inner teenager. That happens if you stumble across a serie and get some kind of addicted.
Two seasons of Merlin later...
Woodland
and Woodland is growing and growing... ( and yes, my desk is always a mess!)

Sunny Sophia

I haven't shown you the result of my first Amy Butler Handbag yet. So here it is. Unfortunately it's not the right season for this fabric but there will be another summer.
Sophia1
The handles are too short and the bottom has a strange bulk so next time I will cut longer straps and avoid the piping around the bottom. And use another interfacing.
The lining turned out to be a little bit too large but anyway...
SophieInnenleben
Who cares?
The next bag is waiting on Sew, Mama, sew!

Ja schön!

Read this in english

Kerstin

It has been a wonderful day yesterday. Although the last week was more like autumn with low temperatures it was a nice late summer's day. Perfect weather for visiting another medieval fair.
IMG_1907
This time it was a fair at the Marienburg in Monheim. Nicely situated, but of course smaller than the Spectaculum in Cologne.
Unfortunately there also were no "Wow-effect", although the music was okay and there was a good assortment of booths.
IMG_1908
But the music was too little, most of the time you couldn't hear it and the other attractions were also not so visible.
IMG_1906
Therefor the fair was more familial and I had some nice chats with the folks there.
It was way too warm for my cosy coat so I just throw it over for the picture.
IMG_1912
As you see, it's a perfect fit( and has the parti-coloured trimming!)

Farbe oder nicht Farbe?

Read this in english

Because of a very quick delivery of 1A- Kurzwaren my borders arrived just today. So colored or plain, that's the question. I prefer the colored one because the border is a bit softer and the cloak is a little bit bland.
And I can use my fibula or my brooch with it, both would fit.

Edit: This is the fibula.

Mittelaltergeometrie

Read this in english

Kerstin

I've been a busy girl this week ( I'm on holiday!) and so not only my Sophia Carry-All got her interlinning ( pictures will follow soon!) but I've started sewing another piece for my medieval fair garb.
Last year I bought 4 metres of a dark gray woolen fabric at the Dutch fabric market, only four metres, to be exact. At home I noticed that this wouldn't be enough for a three quarter circle, because this would have taken 50 cm more.
I have never been good in mathematics!
What now? Making a half circle cloak? Or not? At first the fabric hibernated through winter, stuffed with lavender and cedar-wood against the nasty moths!
For the Spectaculum in Juli I didn't need a cloak because it was pretty warm.
But the next visit to a medieval fair is in September and watching the weather today I believe having a cloak is not a bad idea. A linen dress might be a bit thin!
At first I've damped the fabric, spread it on the floor and after using a pencil and some cord for drawing a half circle I've cut it.
There was a leftover of app. 1m so what now?
The cloak has a wide front opening because it only a half circle.
Mantel2
( Please ignore the pile of fabric under the dress form, this was another draping experiment.)
Maybe the leftovers would be enough for something. Again I took the pencil and the cord and gathered my little knowledge of geometrics and ignored such things as nap and grain ( Hang the nap and hang the grain! They are more like guidelines anyway!) and cut two segments of a circle.
Mantel3
I've sewed those two segments to the half circle ( with the machine.. BOO!)
Mantel5
Now the circle is much fuller ( and can't be shot in one picture)
Mantel4
and there's no gap at the front opening anymore!
Mantel6
I will put some interlining in the area around the neck, because the cloak is quite heavy yet but I don't like wool so close to my skin.
And I think it will be a good idea to rip the seams a bit so I can put my hands out. Might be very handy.
